New Schedule and Budget

Filed November 19, 2006, 01:17:56 PM | 5 comments » add comment | email this
1.  Gaming Society is now just on Thursdays.  Tuesdays wasn't getting enough turnout to justify it being held.

2.  I've submitted a preliminary budget to the Student Union.

Nintendo Wii console w/ Wii Sports
Nintendo Wii remote
Nintendo Wii nunchuk
Red Steel
Guitar Hero 2 w/ SG Guitar
Keyboard cable

The total comes to around £280.  This is not a final list and is subject to change.  For example, Guitar Hero 2 and Red Steel may be replaced if demand is drummed up for an alternative.

Update 21/11/06: The budget has been approved.

We're Back!

First off, a welcome back to all the second/third year students.  Hope you all got the grades you wanted Smiley  For those who've just joined TVU, hope you're settling in!

Gaming Society hasn't quite started off as planned.  There's been two issues, one is that the computers in room G120 (aka. our room) are being formatted and aren't going to be ready until week 3, the other is that due to unforeseen circumstances Gaming Society was not advertised to the first years during induction.

Gaming Society will resume every Tuesday and Thursday from Week 3 onwards.
Hurrah for glow!

Between now and then I'm gonna go print off loads of posters Sad

Any questions about Gaming Society can be answered with a quick email to tckocrATgmailDOTcom or on the forums.

tvuGaming back from being hacked!

The forums here got hacked and all posts got deleted. I'm guessing it was done by one of those phpBB worms that go signing up to forums and hacking them.

There is now a visual confirmation step that has to be used when registering an account - that should hopefully help prevent this happening again.

I haven't made very frequent backups of the database here - so everything is restored from 09/03/2006 - sorry TCK, lost your lovely news items Sad

I know the main problem here is the forum software, phpBB is indeed crappy and I would much prefer to use SMF.

Later on this holiday I might convert it to SMF so everything is more secure and just plain better.

Sorry for taking this long to restore everything - been busy the last few days with moving to a new flat in Belfast and then having to fly home for a bit.

Update: Forums upgraded to latest version.

Days have changed!

The two primary gaming society days have now changed from Tuesday and Thursday to Tuesday and Wednesday. This is to aid the majority of the members with their new timetables.

And some more good news... I'm pleased to announce Marathon Monday! Every week for this semester, Monday is booked from 10AM to 9PM, this is an extra optional day where you can come in whenever you want at G120. I'm sure some of you hardcore gamers will come in for the whole day!

As was done last year a Pro Evolution tournament has been organised (not by the GS) for next week on Wednesday 25th. I think it's being be held in the big hall at Student Union, everyone is welcome to join. For more information contact Dane Lopez-Vito (Vice-President of Recreation) at SU.Recreation[at]tvu.ac.uk

If anyone is going please take some photos so it can be put on this website.

Good news everyone!  Our proposal has been accepted and we will be getting everything we wanted. We won't get the 2 DDR softpads as that was depending on whether we would have enough money for the metal dance pad.

So what have we ordered so far? Below is a list of items that have so far been ordered/baught for the gaming society (check back here for updates):

Prices are the total cost including p&p if applicable.

RGT Light Gun G1 = ?39.95
5 Premium Logitech USB Mice= ?54.15
Cobalt Flux DDR Pad= ?90 from GS (pad is over ?200 I think but Christian is kindly paying for the rest)

Total: ?184.10
